Originally from Maine, I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. Along with owning and running a True Value Hardware store, my father also worked in the housing development field. This exposed me to the construction industry where I would work after school and during the summers at numerous job sites. I attended the Cabinet Making Program during high school at the United Technology Center.
After graduation, I wanted to learn more about fine woodworking. I took a position at Morris Yachts, one of Maine's finest sail boat builders. I spent the next four years learning all aspects of boat building and worked alongside some of the best woodworkers in the world. This opportunity resulted in more knowledge than I could have ever imagined, including composites & free form woodworking, metal work & electrical tasks. Eventually I was offered a position to lead a new division of day sailers, but the urge to move west was too strong. As much as I loved working on boats, I left the company and headed to Jackson Hole.
Shortly after arriving in Jackson, I realized that boat building wasn't an option, so I took a position as a finish carpenter for one of Jacksons premier building companies. We worked together for one year on the finishing phase of a 10,000 square foot home. I then decided to get back into the shop environment and accepted a position with a high end cabinet maker in Jackson Hole. During that time, I was able to broaden my knowledge base and skill sets. I learned all aspects of cabinet making including milling, CNC machining, finishing and design. I worked with that company for ten years until I decided to go out on my own.
After starting Downriver Woodworks, LLC in May of 2015, I’ve done a variety of work from general remodels to high end cabinetry.
